Hi, I’m Danny—the founder (and one-and-only baker) behind Thunder Bread Bakery.

Thunder Bread Bakery started as a flicker of an idea in the summer of 2022—born out of a lifelong love for baking, the itch for a creative outlet, and the desire for something more beyond the 9-to-5 grind. To quote Sugarland: "There's gotta be something more," yea?

My love for baking started early, in the kitchen with my dad—churning out boxed cakes, brownies, and one of my favorites, gingerbread. That’s also where I learned one of life’s most sacred truths: the ever-so-sacred “sweet treat.”

In college, baking quietly faded as I focused on earning my Master’s in Plastics Engineering and building my career. I didn’t know it then, but I was starting to miss the kind of creativity only baking could offer.

I look back now and realize it may have been one of those “butterfly effect” moments on my personal timeline. That moment being laid-off 2017 from my first corporate job of 4 years. Because during this not-so-brief bout of unemployment I rediscovered my love for baking. Apparently, the equation went something like this:

 [too much free time] + [bingeing Great British Bake Off] = [a sudden, all-consuming need to perfect a Swiss roll].

One bake led to another since, and in 2019 I joined Reddit’s “52-Bake Challenge”—a year-long journey that pushed me to experiment with all sorts of different baking techniques, recipes, and flavors. More importantly I learned the importance of celebrating the wins, learning from the flops, and flexing and discovering creative, last-minute solutions to save bakes when things went south!

Years later—after hitting my 10-year mark in my engineering corporate career, earning another graduate certificate, developing a slight obsession with Nordic flavors and culture, (oh—and marrying into a family with the last name Boulanger … French for baker) —everything began to coalesce. And so, the beginnings of Thunder Bread Bakery were born..
